Easy to make and just a couple ingredients, this latte recipe has the unique sesame flavor of tahini with a touch of sweetness from honey. Blend it up and be on your way!
As usual, this recipe is gluten free, paleo, vegetarian, and can be nut free.
I adore all manner of nut and seed butters, but tahini ranks up there towards the top. For whatever reason, that toasted sesame flavor is a gamechanger for me. It's so incredibly unlike anything else... although you can sorta swap peanut butter with sunflower seed butter or almond butter, there's really no swap for tahini.
That said, if you're wondering if you can swap the tahini for something else...no. You can't. That would make an entirely different drink. Would it taste good? Sure, it might. But this matcha latte is all about the tahini, so let's stick with that!
If you weren't already aware, tahini is essentially sesame seed butter. I've always found it a little peculiar that out of all the nut and seed butters, tahini gets its own name, whereas any other is just "[nut or seed] butter". Why is that?
Turns out "tahini" comes from the Arabic word for "to grind or crush." (That's what Google told me anyway...let me know if you have a correction!)
Anyway. Tahini is most famously used for hummus, but it's much more versatile than that. I've used it for cookies, salad dressings, and now this tahini matcha latte!
Then we have matcha.
Matcha is the finely ground powder of specially grown green tea leaves. It's crammed with antioxidants and helps boost metabolism.
It's kind of...hmm...and acquired taste. The first time I had matcha I was underwhelmed. But once I got to experimenting and creating recipes like this tahini matcha latte, I grew fond of it. Try it, and you might, too!
Put Your Own Spin on this Recipe
- Use whatever non-dairy milk you like
- Toss in a scoop of collagen peptides to add a boost of benefits for your joints, gut health, hair, skin, and nails

Tahini Matcha Latte

- 1 cup cashew milk
- 1 cup hot water
- 1 tablespoon + 1 teaspoon tahini
- 1 tablespoon raw honey
- 2 teaspoons matcha powder
- Add everything to a blender and blend for 20 to 30 seconds until completely smooth. Pour into two mugs and serve immediately.
