    Ingredients

    COTTAGE CHEESE

My go-to brands are Good Culture and Nancy's!

Each has 14 grams of protein per ½ cup serving. That makes each ½ cup serving a MAJOR protein boost to a recipe or snack.

I typically opt for low fat cottage cheese, which I use for my go-to High Protein Overnight Oatmeal with Cottage Cheese. If you're after creamier, thicker bowls, use 4% or full fat cottage cheese.

    FRUIT:

Almost any fruit works great for cottage cheese bowls!

    A non-exhaustive list of options:

    • Strawberries
    • Blueberries
    • Blackberries
    • Raspberries
    • Pineapple
    • Kiwi
    • Peaches
    • Nectarines
    • Apples
    • Banana
    • Passionfruit
    • Squeeze of orange juice or lemon juice

    MORE TOPPING IDEAS:

    • Chia seeds
    • Granola
    • Nuts and seeds
    • Nut butter
    • Dried dates or figs
    • Jam
    • Chopped mint
    • Drizzle of honey or maple syrup
Bowl with cottage cheese, pineapple, kiwi, and dried figs

    Instructions

    1. Gather and prepare ingredients - slice or chop fruit, measure out toppings, etc.
    2. Prepare bowls - add cottage cheese to a bowl and top with ingredients.

    Cottage cheese bowl combination ideas

BERRIES + GRANOLA: Use ½ cup strawberries, ½ cup blueberries, and ½ cup granola

TROPICAL BOWL: Use ¾ cup chopped pineapple, ½ cup kiwi, and ¼ cup diced dried figs. Sprinkle with unsweetened shredded coconut.

PB & J: Use ¾ strawberries and 2 tablespoons peanut butter

APPLE PIE: Use 1 chopped apple, ¼ teaspoon cinnamon or apple pie spice, and 1 crumbled graham cracker.

    FAQs

What kind of cottage cheese should I use?

You can use 1%, 2%, or full fat cottage cheese - your choice!
Obviously, full fat cottage cheese will have more calories than 1% or 2%, but choose what works for you.

How much protein does cottage cheese have?

This'll vary by brand, but 1 cup of cottage cheese contains 24-28 grams of protein for 160-200 calories!
That makes it a high protein food for relatively low calories.

What brand of cottage cheese should I use?

My go-to brands are Good Culture and Nancy's! However, many of my readers like Daisy brand cottage cheese as well.

What if I don't like the texture of cottage cheese?

First tip: try blending the cottage cheese! Feel free to use Greek yogurt or skyr instead of cottage cheese.

    Can I use frozen fruit?

Yes! Frozen, thawed berries work great. The juices that drain from thawed fruit also mixes well with cottage cheese to add more flavor.

    Can I sweeten these bowls?

Yes. The fruit will add some sweetness to the bowls on its own. But if you'd like a bit more of a boost, add 1-2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup.

    Variations and substitutions

    Blend the cottage cheese

Not too keen on the curds in cottage cheese, or just want to switch it up? Try blending the cottage cheese!

Blended cottage cheese is super smooth and creamy - if you haven't had it before, it's definitely worth a try!

    Use yogurt or skyr

If cottage cheese just isn't your jam or you find yourself without enough, feel free to use yogurt or skyr (a thick Iclandic yogurt similar to Greek yogurt).

    Boost the protein

On its own, 1 serving of cottage cheese has 14g protein - but if you'd like to bump up the protein content, here are a couple ideas.

Protein powder: Stir ½ scoop of protein powder per each ½ cup of cottage cheese. This will work better if you blend the cottage cheese and protein powder together.

Nuts and nut butters: Add peanuts, peanut butter, or peanut butter powder for a little boost. Note that nuts also add quite a bit of fat/overall calories, though.

Protein bars: Chop up your fave protein bar and use as a topping!
