Who doesn't love the flavor combo of a chocolate strawberry smoothie? Part protein-packed snack and decadent treat, this smoothie is dairy free and gluten free.

Using a dairy free beef-based protein, you can make this smoothie with just a couple extra ingredients!

    5 ingredients for a protein-packed strawberry smoothie

You can probably figure out what's in this chocolate strawberry smoothie just based on the recipe title.

That said, I do have a few ingredients notes to keep this recipe dairy free, gluten free, and paleo.

    • Strawberries (fresh or frozen)
    • Chocolate protein powder
    • Strawberry protein powder
    • Non-dairy milk (any works, but my favorite is cashewmilk or oatmilk!)
    • Ice (if using fresh strawberries)

To keep this recipe dairy free, make sure you opt for non-dairy milk AND non-dairy protein powder. Non-dairy protein powder may be a little harder to find than whey-based versions, but they are out there, I swear!

I've linked my favorite brand throughout the post.

As a note, I LOVE using oatmilk for smoothies but it's not paleo. If you need a paleo option, my two top choices are cashewmilk or almondmilk!

    My all-time favorite protein powder

Hands down, my favorite protein powder is Equip Prime Protein! That's what I've used for this recipe.

I have many, many reasons that I love this protein powder, but the most important is that it's the best-tasting protein powder I've ever had - and it's made with beef!

If you've never had it before, that might seem a little crazy - but damn is this protein powder good. The vanilla tastes like birthday cake, the chocolate tastes like - well, chocolate, and the strawberry tastes like strawberry milk.

Ugh. Just too good, all of them!

Beyond the flavor, though, I like that Equip Prime Protein is dairy free and junk free. Of course, that's a big deal when making a dairy free chocolate strawberry smoothie.

Plus, 20g of protein per scoop doesn't lie - it delivers exactly what it's supposed to, which is high quality PROTEIN.

Variations on this chocolate strawberry smoothie

Smoothies are endlessly customizable! Here are a few suggestions if you're looking to change up this recipe:

    Can't find strawberry protein powder?

If you don't want to buy Equip Strawberry Prime Protein that I used in this recipe (let's face it: you SHOULD buy it because it's incredible), just use all chocolate protein powder or a blend of chocolate and vanilla.

The strawberries in the recipe should still provide for that chocolate-strawberry flavor combo we all know and love.

Want a little more green in your smoothie?

If you aren't super concerned with the visual aesthetic of your smoothie, toss in a handfull or two of spinach.

Otherwise, add a cup of zucchini. Seriously, zucchini is a GREAT smoothie addition - it's relatively neutral-flavored and adds a boatload of creaminess to any smoothie.

Also, great way to use up zucchini when you're drowning in it, which I usually am in late summer.

Not enough of a chocolate punch?

If your protein powder just isn't giving you the chocolate explosion you want, add ½ tablespoon of cocoa powder to the smoothie.

I tested this recipe with Equip Chocolate Prime Protein, but not every chocolate protein has the same chocolate flavor. Whatever you use might garner different results.
