Make your own gluten free fajita seasoning using a handful of spices and herbs - and you can make chicken, steak, vegetable, or shrimp fajitas in a pinch any night!

This easy recipe saves you money overall and ensures that the seasoning blend you're using has no additives.

Keep reading for tips on how to use this tasty fajita blend, plus ways to adjust it to your tastes!

Ingredients in gluten free fajita seasoning

Fajita seasoning contains a blend of:

    • chili powder
    • salt
    • cumin
    • paprika
    • garlic powder
    • onion powder
    • black pepper
    • cayenne (optional)

What's the difference between fajita and taco seasoning?

Spices and herbs for fajita seasoning in small dishes

While the two are similar, the amount of each spice in each blend is different. The same goes for chili seasoning - most of the same spices, but different amounts!

You can definitely use taco seasoning in a pinch, but having gluten free fajita seasoning on hand keeps flavor variety in your life!

    Is fajita seasoning gluten free?

Usually, yes! However, if you're buying a store-bought blend, you'll have to pay close attention to the label.

Some brands contain additives like wheat flour, cornstarch, or maltodextrin.

You'll particularly find additives in fajita sauce blends - a liquid version of the spice blend.

Fortunately, making your own fajita seasoning is cheaper overall (you'll spend more on each spice but make multiple batches of cajun blend) AND you'll know for sure there's no hidden gluten in it!

Another advantage of making a fajita spice blend rather than a sauce - you can keep the seasoning in a jar for up to a year, grabbing it for use as you need it!

How to make your own fajita seasoning

This couldn't be easier. Get all your spices and herbs together, measure everything into a bowl, and stir until combined.

    It's that simple!

Store in an airtight container for up to 6 months.

How to adjust this spice blend to your tastes

By making your own seasoning blend, you've got the power to adjust the blend however you'd like! Add a little more of one ingredient or a little less of another.

However, here are the top ways to adjust this gluten free fajita seasoning:

To make a salt free seasoning

    Simple: just omit the salt!

Personally I think all spice blends are better WITH salt, but if for whatever reason you need to reduce the amount of salt in your life, you can easily omit it from the blend.

Ways to use this gluten free fajita seasoning

    To make fajitas, of course!

I've got a simple recipe for Whole30 Skillet Steak Fajitas that offers a straightforward approach to easy weeknight fajitas. You can swap the steak out for chicken, veggies, or shrimp to make different varieties.

With a jar of fajita seasoning on hand, making quick weeknight gluten free chicken fajitas, shrimp fajitas, or steak fajitas is incredibly easy!

Hi Evelyn! I use this fajita seasoning for chicken bowls and meal prep and 1 1/2 tablespoons per 2 pounds of chicken is my go-to! That said, you can always start with 1 tablespoon per 2 pounds of meat and adjust to your tastes.
