Lightly sweet, thick, and easy to make, this whipped cottage cheese fruit dip adds a heap of protein (over 20g per serving!) to a sweet snack.
You only need 2-3 ingredients for this high protein cottage cheese dip - it couldn't be easier!

What makes this recipe great
TWO INGREDIENTS: That's it! Just protein powder and cottage cheese. Couldn't be simpler.
CREAMY & VERSATILE: Since the flavor comes from whatever protein you use, you can adjust the flavor by changing protein powders.
EASY PROTEIN! Each serving of this recipe has over 20 grams of protein. What a snack!

What's in this dip
Two ingredients: cottage cheese and protein powder.
Really, that's it. I have a couple caveats for each, though, so read on!
Cottage cheese
My go-to brands are Good Culture and Nancy's!
Each has 14 grams of protein per ½ cup serving. That makes each ½ cup serving a MAJOR protein boost to a recipe or snack.
I used low fat cottage cheese when testing this recipe and it works just fine. For a thicker, richer dip, though, use 2% or full fat cottage cheese.
Protein Powder
In my recipe tests, I mainly used vanilla protein powder, and that's what the recipe calls for.
My go-to protein powder is Equip Prime Protein - it works SO well in this recipe and tastes fantastic!
Equip's myriad of flavors offer numerable ways to customize this recipe. Salted caramel, chocolate, peanut butter, strawberry... all fantastic flavors to pair with fruit!
Gelatin
If you're not using a beef-based protein powder like the one I recommended, you'll probably have to use a little bit of gelatin to help thicken things up.
It's optional, but makes a much better dip if you do!

Why beef protein works best
Since Equip Protein is a beef protein powder, it has a high gelatin content, which is the secret to this dip thickening nicely. I highly recommend using a beef-based protein powder for that reason!
That said, I also tested this recipe with First Phorm Level 1 vanilla ice cream protein. Not our favorite iteration, and the dip wasn't as thick, but it's serviceable!
How to make whipped cottage cheese dip
Add the cottage cheese and protein powder to a blender and blend until smooth!
Then, transfer the mixture to a bowl and refrigerate for at least 12 hours.
When just blended, the dip will be a little too runny. However, if you've ever blended cottage cheese before, you'll know it thickens if you let it sit.
FAQ
I like using my fave Equip Foods Prime Protein - it's dairy free and made from beef (although it doesn't taste like it), which means the high gelatin content helps to thicken this dip.
That said, you can use other protein powders, although they won't be as thick. I also tested this recipe with First Phorm Formula 1 vanilla, which is whey-based, and I'm sure other whey-based proteins would work well!
As a note of caution: if your protein powder has a gritty texture or weird aftertaste, this dip will NOT hide that. Use a protein powder you actually like.
My go-tos are Good Culture and Nancy's. I used 1% low fat cottage cheese and enjoyed the results.
For a thicker, creamier dip, use 2% or full fat cottage cheese.
Thicken it up with some gelatin! Sprinkle 1 tablespoon gelatin over 2 tablespoons water. After the gelatin has bloomed for a minute or two, pop in the microwave for 20 seconds to dissolve. Pour into the dip, stirring constantly. Refrigerate for at least an hour. It should be a bit thicker!
Serving suggestions
- Fruit, of course! -Strawberries, pineapple, banana slices, and even blueberries go great with this dip.
- Pretzels - We happened to have some Glutino gluten free pretzels on hand when testing this recipe, and though we normally don't keep this snack around, it became a perfect pairing that we dove into!
- Graham crackers - Plus other sweet crackers work well here too!
- Overnight oats - Thinking outside the box, this dip makes a protein-packed addition stirred into overnight oats. Similar to my cottage cheese overnight oats that are my go-to breakfast!

Variations and substitutions
- CHANGE THE FLAVOR: The easy way to change the flavor of this dip is to simply use a different flavor protein powder.
Equip makes several flavors that would work well here: chocolate, peanut butter, salted caramel, and more! - USE GREEK YOGURT: While I love the creaminess and flavor of cottage cheese here, you can use Greek yogurt or skyr if it's more up your alley.
- SWEETEN IT: If you find your protein powder doesn't add enough sweetness, add a little maple syrup or honey and blend again.

Whipped Cottage Cheese Fruit Dip (High Protein)
- Prep Time: 10 minutes
- Total Time: 10 minutes
- Yield: 4 servings 1x
- Category: Snack
- Method: Blended
- Diet: Gluten Free
Description
Just 2 ingredients makes a tasty dip with over 20 grams protein per serving!
I highly recommend using Equip Protein Powder, as its high gelatin content helps to thicken the dip. However, if using a whey- or plant-based protein, make sure you use gelatin to thicken things up.
Ingredients
- 1 16-oz container cottage cheese, low fat (2%) or full fat (4%)
- 2 scoops vanilla protein powder
- 1 tablespoon gelatin (optional, but recommended if you aren't using my recommended protein powder!)
Instructions
- Blend: Add the cottage cheese and protein powder to a high-powered blender. Blend, starting on low and increasing to high, until completely smooth.
- Thicken [optional]: If you aren't using Equip protein or other beef-based protein powder, use gelatin to help thicken the dip. Sprinkle the gelatin ove 2 tablespoons of water in a microwave-safe bowl and set aside to let it "bloom" for a minute or two. Microwave the mixture for 10 seconds to dissolve. Turn the blender on to low and pour the dissolved gelatin into the cottage cheese mixture.
- Let it set: Transfer the cottage cheese mixture to a bowl. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or up to a day. Serve with fruit or crackers. Store, covered, in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
